My food, my style.

I am a foodie with a food allergy.  No, this blog isn't entirely about food.  It's about life and the things that bring me joy, but one of those joys is creating great food.  And since I have gluten sensitivity, I have to get really creative or just do without.

Food allergies are challenging, so I am always in search of a shortcut.

Challenge #1
Time.  I am a full-time working woman, so I don't have a lot of time to buy all those various flours for that perfect flour blend just so I can have a cupcake when my hormones tell me I need one.

Challenge #2
Quantity.  I'm single, so I'm not feeding a house full of empty stomachs, thus limiting the quantity of food I prepare.  Buying in bulk for a bargain doesn't help me much.

Challenge #3
Cost.  Alternative foods are ex-pen-sive.  And I ain't made of money.

That said, a lot of my recipes will not contain any grain whatsoever.  There are TONS of delicious meals you can eat that don't require grain or starches, and are consequently very healthy.  It's much easier than you think.

My recipes have real ingredients with no imitations.  Butter.  Bacon.  Cheese. Wine.  I'm no nutritionist, but I believe in moderation and I believe in flavor.

I do semi-organic cooking.  Depending on season and budget, some recipes can be totally organic dishes.

I've also sifted through many blogs for recipes, and there's one thing that bothers me; they don't put the recipe at the top of the blog.  This means scrolling through 4 pages of pictures and process to see if I actually like the ingredients before I commit to the recipe.  Ain't nobody got time for that!  So to respect those who just want to see the ingredients first, I will put the recipe at the top with a picture, then fill in the instructions with pictures and commentary later.

My goal is to simplify the gluten-free lifestyle so that those who don't have the allergy can easily cook beautiful, aromatic, tempting, delicious food for their guests who are gluten sensitive.

New Year's Resolution

Yes, I have a New Year's Resolution and I am pretty sure I can stick with it.  My goal is so simple, yet so difficult to do.  It's not weight loss or quitting smoking.  It's breakfast.  Being gluten intolerant makes a quick breakfast very, very difficult to accomplish, especially when you're chronically late for work.  But I have recently discovered the quickest, easiest thing in the world to make and here's the recipe.

1 bowl
1 microwave
1 egg
30 seconds on high for medium-cooked sunny side up.

Done.  Love it.  Love eggs.  Occasionally I'll add a garnish of sour kraut or tomatoes, or my very favorite...bacon.

I'm curious to see how this little resolution could possibly change my life.  Breakfast is so vitally important, yet I take it for granted.  It's just one small step to better health and life overall.
